The Wettin fountain in Bismarckhain replaced the former fountain bowl in 1914. The consecration of the fountain on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the city's charter on April 13, 1914 received even greater attention because the king was personally present. The impressive fountain, which was created at the suggestion of City Councilor Döhler, was donated by the state government for the festival.
The fountain is a creation of the artist Edmund Möller from Dresden and made from the best Posta Elbe sandstone. Möller was guided by the idea of depicting trade and industrial industriousness. The fountain is crowned by a group on both sides. The group on the western side represents trade with Mercury at rest, looking into the distance; next to it is a female figure with a laurel garland, which characterizes the success of trade.
The eastern group represents fertility and domestic industry, which is embodied by the figure of the spinner.
How the fountain got its name can be read in the Crimmitschau Anzeiger as follows: "Wettinbrunnen! This is what it will be called from now on in memory of the fact that it was consecrated in the presence of our illustrious sovereign on the day when our citizens remembered the Celebrates the time when the foundation stone for the first blossoming of our municipality was laid by a Wettin prince with the granting of town charter.
