        The Valley of Roses is located in Killesbergpark, perhaps the most popular park in Stuttgart. In the Valley of Roses you can best understand the past of Killesberg Park - today's park was a quarry until the beginning of the last century.

        The Valley of Roses is an artificial valley furrow. To this day, it is still bordered in some places by the vertical walls of the former quarry. The Killesberg Park with the Valley of Roses was opened in 1939 for the Reich Garden Show.

        An information board in the Valley of Roses describes the history of the former quarry. Accordingly, the quarries were put into operation around 1790 as stone quarries for the Feuerbach quarrymen. However, the quarry is said to have existed since the year 1500. In 1850 there were approximately 100 stone crushers. Until the beginning of the First World War, reed sandstone was mined in what is now the Valley of the Roses. The reed sandstone belongs to the Keuper Formation (the Keuper forms an important step within the southwest German strata region; e.g. the boundary of the Stuttgart basin belongs to the Keuper step).
