Home ground of the 1FCK - located above the city.

Quite a block of concrete, a very technical building, which, however, is quite useful in its funnel characteristics and does not take up an unnecessarily large area on the small area of the Betzenberg.

The Fritz Walter Stadium, formerly known as the Betzenberg Stadium and also as Betzenberg or Betze, is a football stadium in the Rhineland-Palatinate city of Kaiserslautern. It is the home of 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

It hosted five matches during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The stadium received its current name on November 2, 1985, on the occasion of the 65th birthday of Fritz Walter, captain of the FCK championship teams in 1951 and 1953 and the first honorary captain of the German national football team. Previously, it was simply called the Betzenberg Stadium or the Stadium on the Betzenberg. Therefore, the stadium is also colloquially known as the Betze. After the Second World War, the stadium was briefly called the Stade Monsabert, named after the commander of the French occupation forces, General Joseph de Goislard de Monsabert.

The owner of the stadium, previously owned by the club, has been Fritz-Walter-Stadion Kaiserslautern GmbH, a wholly-owned city, since 2003.
On the site where the current Fritz-Walter-Stadion stands, the Betzenberg sports field, named after the site of the same name, was opened in 1920. It was a sand pitch with spectator stands and a small wooden grandstand built on its south side. In 1926, the sand pitch was replaced by a grass pitch.

The Betzenberg stadium had labor market and economic significance since 1931 at the latest, as it was part of the job creation measures of the "Voluntary Labor Service" as a result of mass unemployment. These measures were part of an emergency decree of 1931 that allowed members of gymnastics and sports clubs to work for the club as low-paid workers. Among other things, the stadium oval was renovated and expanded, as were the grandstands, the spectator terrace, the hockey field, and the ticket office. Up to 140 unemployed Kaiserslautern residents, primarily members of 1. FCK, were employed for this purpose. These measures were justified by the fact that the sports field would benefit youth fitness and the implementation of military sports. Furthermore, the goal was to alleviate the unemployment crisis by integrating the unemployed into the workforce. With the construction of two standing areas and a grandstand in the north, the capacity was expanded to 18,000 spectators.
