In autumn 2007, the Ascher local group of the Fichtelgebirge Association came up with the idea of building a wooden pedestrian bridge over the Mühlbach on the still existing stone foundations of the old bridge. The idea excited people on both sides of the border. The "Europe Bridge" or "Bridge of Friendship" was opened in summer 2008. In the middle of the bridge, which lies exactly on the border between Germany and the Czech Republic, there is a stylized gate through which you can cross to your neighbor. The relief of a friendly and reconciling handshake was placed on both sides of the bridge gate. A gesture towards a future of togetherness and mutual respect.

The wooden footbridge "Europabrücke" was built in 2008 instead of the former bridge, as a symbolic gesture by the neighbors on both sides of the border (the symbolism of reconciliation can also be found on the wooden relief of the handshake directly on the bridge).
