    Die Kostel sv. Jana Nepomuckého is a beautiful church in the city center. Definitely worth a visit!

      The church is linked to the history of the Redemptorist Order, which came to the city in 1907. Two years later an association was formed to build the church, and in 1910 construction began. The following year he was ordained. The church was built in the pseudo-Romanesque style according to the plans of the architects Jan Svoboda and František Stalmacher. The three-aisled building is 50 m long and has two 63 m high towers. The original Jan, Alfons, Marie and Josef bells were confiscated for war purposes. Today's ones were created in 1929 in Rudolf Perner's workshop. The main altar of St. John of Nepomucky, the side altars of Fr. Mary of Constant Help and St. Joseph were designed by Prof. Jan Kastner František Kadeřábek from Prague. A monastery was built next to the church in 1935-1936, today the building is used by the Police of the Czech Republic.

          Saint John NEPOMUK was a priest (Vicar General of the Archbishop) in Bohemia who died a martyr's death in Prague in 1393. He was thrown from Prague's Charles Bridge into the Vltava River on royal orders and drowned. His statue can still be found on many bridges today. Much more rarely, as here, are churches or chapels dedicated to him.

          John Nepomuk is not only considered a popular "bridge saint", but is also the patron of the seal of confession. In many depictions of his person he holds a cross in one hand, sometimes he puts a finger to his lips with the other as a sign of silence (which was heard during confession).

          The memorial day of Saint John Nepomuk in the calendar of saints is March 20th.
