The village of Kühsen was first mentioned in a document in 1230. However, the Stone Age settlement sites found in the Kühsen area show that the place was settled long before that. Bends, elevations and curves give the place character and beauty. The coat of arms reflects characteristic features of the community such as the seven farmhouses arranged in a circle on the Brink and the Elbe-Lübeck Canal.

The Kühsener See, the Karpfenkuhle, serves as a bathing area in summer and an ice rink in cold winters.

With the Elbe-Lübeck Canal in 1900, a navigable connection was created between the Elbe near Lauenburg and the Trave near Lübeck.
Today it is almost exclusively used by sport boats. In the area of the small community of Kühsen, it flows through a landscape dominated by fields and meadows.
A very nice bike / hiking trail leads along the canal bank. If you like, you can cycle several kilometers between Lauenburg and Lübeck along the canal.
