The Granatkapelle, which is located on the sunny plateau of the Penkenjoch, east of the bank of the reservoir, is definitely worth a detour. This beautiful chapel made of local wood and steel combines the history and landscape of the Zillertal in a unique way. It is intended to represent the stark contrast between the rationality of man and the organic essence of nature. As a real eye-catcher, it is dedicated to Blessed Engelbert Kolland, whose home parish, Ramsau im Zillertal, can be seen from the chapel.

The Granatkapelle, or Capella Granata, is the first building designed by the Swiss star architect Mario Botta in Austria. It is not without reason that he gave the chapel the structure of a rhombic dodecahedron, which is the smallest form of a polished garnet. Also called "Karfunkelstein", this is considered a Zillertal folk gem, after all it was mined here for centuries. As a traditional piece of jewelry, garnets still adorn the Zillertal woman in traditional costume today!
