One of the city's landmarks. Remains of the former moated castle of the Hoya counts. This complex formed another fortification within the city's protective walls and served as the permanent residence of the Hoya counts from 1324. After the Thirty Years' War, the castle and outbuildings were demolished. Only the castle tower remained. It was subsequently used for military purposes, including as a prison. Here the prisoners were “in the stocks”. Restored by the Corps Hannoverania in 1975 on the occasion of the 950th anniversary. Today the home of the Corps Hannoverania and the Rühmkorffbund.
