The Bonenburgersluis is located in the Apeldoornskanaal. It was built with private capital from 1825. On April 13, 1829, the canal was opened and was renamed Griftkanaal. The then wooden lock was 22 m long and 4.30 m wide. In 1837, Rijkswaterstaat took over management in 1843, followed by ownership of the canal. In 1997, Rijkswaterstaat transferred the canal and its accessories to the Veluwe water board, the predecessor of what is now the Vallei en Veluwe water board. The wooden lock was replaced in 1884 by a masonry lock 31.25 m long and 6.20 m wide. The lock length was 30 m and the width 6 m, the minimum threshold depth was KP -2.15 m. listed building. After decommissioning the canal, the wooden point doors were removed and the water level was regulated up to the restoration of the lock, the water level on the top of this lock was controlled with an electro-mechanically driven valve weir. The valve weir is installed in the top of the lock. In 2013, plans were developed to restore the lock to its original state and to regulate the water level of the upper building with a diversion. Two original wooden pointed doors have been stored under water for the top head to be placed back later.
