The town hall, built between 1906 and 1908, was made possible by donations from Kellinghusener citizens. On the facade there are forms of historicism and Art Nouveau elements. The stairwell is equipped with stained glass windows showing allegorical motifs from trade, industry, handicraft and agriculture.

The Kellinghusener coat of arms and the state coat of arms of Schleswig-Holstein are depicted on the facade of the town hall. In the state coat of arms, however, the two blue lions striding over each other are in the heraldic right field (left for the viewer) facing outwards, like the original Schleswig lions and exactly as the anecdote after Bismarck did not want to see them. This misrepresentation of the national coat of arms is found quite rarely.
