The Bockenheimer Warte, view from the east (2010)
The Bockenheimer Warte is one of the watch towers built by the Frankfurt Landwehr in the 15th century.

From 1434 to 1435 the Bockenheimer Warte was built to reinforce the Landwehr. It still exists today and impresses with its clear Gothic style. The Bockenheimer Warte is the landmark of Bockenheim, although it is - albeit just - in the district of Westend.

The Bockenheimer Warte is one of the four watchtowers of the Frankfurt Landwehr built in the 15th century, so the station is located near the district boundary to the formerly independent town of Bockenheim in Frankfurt's Westend. The name of the watchtower has been transferred to the town square there, which is best known as the location of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. The square has long been an important transport hub and has been used by trams since 1872.
