Located on the edge of the Harz Mountains and near Duderstadt in Eichsfeld in southern Lower Saxony, Gut Herbigshagen is the headquarters of the Heinz Sielmann Foundation. She first leased the estate from the city of Duderstadt before buying it in 2003. The estate is the regional environmental education center of the State of Lower Saxony, an extra-curricular learning location for school classes, an exhibition location and has up to 100,000 guests annually. Nature trail, school farm, farm garden, beekeeping, orchards, fallow deer enclosures and stables for rare livestock breeds are some nature experiences. Every year on Easter Monday, the herb market takes place on the estate.

On the northern edge of the estate is the Franz von Assisi chapel, in which the urn of the founder, Heinz Sielmann, was buried in 2006 and the urn of his wife Inge in 2019.
