Colonel Carl Schenk von Stauffenberg started his flight from Rangsdorf to Rastenburg to the Führer's headquarters "Wolfschanze" at 7:00 a.m. on July 20, 1944, to carry out the assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler. At around 3:00 p.m. he was back in Rangsdorf and informed his co-conspirators in the Bendlerblock that Hitler was dead. Only now was Operation Valkyrie launched to complete the coup. Stauffenberg drove to Berlin to lead it, which failed on the evening of July 20, 1944. In Rangsdorf, Stauffenberg had at least two co-conspirator officers who were also executed after the coup attempt. In memory of Stauffenberg, this memorial and Stauffenbergallee are here on the initiative of the Rangsdorf community and the Seeschule.
