The Jacobikirche is the second of the three major churches in Stendal. It dates from the 14th and 15th centuries. Its tower was built between 1893 and 1901 and replaces the original tower that collapsed in 1808. On its south side is a sandstone tablet, the inscription of which promises indulgences to those who take part in the construction: "At Easter 1311 the master builder Deneke rebuilt me, Lord, grant those who build me the joys of eternal life . The church of St. Jacobi in Stendal is a Protestant town church in the style of brick Gothic. It belongs to the church circle Stendal of the Protestant church in central Germany and stands in the northern part of the Stendaler city center.
St. Jacobi in Stendal was built in the 14th and 15th centuries as a three-aisled six-storey Gothic hall church with a three-nave choir. The lower part is made of granite blocks, the upper part in brick. The choir closes with a slightly irregular five-sided polygon. Several construction phases are recognizable. The oldest part was begun in 1311 and includes the three westernmost yokes of the nave. Then the ship was extended to the east and provided with the choir. The construction seam is marked by two pillars made of granite blocks. The remaining pillars are brick octagonal pillars made of brick, which carry stepped Scheidbögen and the ribbed vault. High three-part and four-part windows illuminate the interior. The original Romanesque tower was taken over by the predecessor building and replaced after the collapse of 1893-1901 by the current tower with pointed helmet.
