Bittkau is a district of the town Tangerhütte in the south of the district Stendal in Saxony-Anhalt.
The name Bittkau is of Wendish origin, 1130 the place was first mentioned as Bithui in a document. Around 1200, the Bittkauer church was built. The navigation on the Elbe determined since the construction of the Plau Canal and the expansion in 1860, the development of the community. For 150 years Bittkau ferry was (until 1970). At the site of the old ferry today is a dock for passenger ships and pleasure boats.
On 30 September 1928, the Gutsbezirk Bittkau was united with the rural community Bittkau.
On May 31, 2010 Bittkau joined with the other municipalities of the administrative community Tangerhütte country to the new city Tangerhütte.
