Rehabilitated park Sint Bernardus
Bastions Treurniet and Vreesniet were dug up by citizens in 1764. An English garden was laid out on the spot, belonging to the Sint Bernardus. When an inspection team visited Bredevoort in 1784 to view the state of the fortifications, people must have been quite shocked. The ramparts had been dug up at a rapid pace and turned into a vegetable garden, bridges had been demolished and replaced by dams, even a complete bastion had been dug down to ground level. The Arsenal and Kruithuis had become unusable, the ravelins had also been turned into a vegetable garden. Only the Glacis around the gates was still intact.
Further on lies the 'floating path' and a few other corten steel works.
