The former rubbish dump is popularly called 'the old shit bump'. The landfill was formerly used by residents of Urk for household waste. Companies have also dumped debris there. An investigation in 2018 found, among other things, a strong contamination by nickel in the soil. Traces of zinc and mercury were also found.

The layer of soil that has been placed over the old landfill site must be partially excavated and then raised again. Therefore it is inevitable that poplars and some ash trees will be cut down. Dense bushes are also disappearing on the hill.

After the remediation, the area should be given a more park-like appearance, with flower and plant borders. New trees are also being planted. There will be new cycling and walking paths that connect to the 'circle around the former island of Urk'. In the park, a piece of the historic dyke along the post screen is being reconstructed. In this way, the history of the island of Urk comes to the fore.
