The Elbe-Lübeck Canal begins/ends here in Lauenburg. From the Lauenburg canal bridge you have great views of the canal in both directions.

The Elbe-Lübeck Canal was opened in 1900. It is 61 km long and connects the Baltic Sea via the Trave with the Elbe near Lauenburg. It thus secures the connection of the Lübeck ports to the European inland waterway network. There are also smaller ports and transhipment points along the canal. With seven locks, the canal overcomes the heights between the Baltic Sea and the Elbe.
