742 - First documented mention of Erfurt
1060 - Conversion of the collegiate foundation into a Benedictine monastery under Archbishop Siegfried I.
1080 - Conquest of Erfurt by Henry IV, destruction of the monastery by fire
1103 - 1147 New church and monastery building of St. Peter and Paul in Hirsau building tradition
1168 - Inclusion of the Petersberg in the expanded city fortifications
1181 - Important Imperial Diet of Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa in St. Peter's Church, subjugation of Henry the Lion
1665 - After the city of Erfurt was subjugated by the Archbishop of Mainz, he ordered the construction of the citadel.
The first period of construction in the New Italian style was significantly influenced by Antonio Petrini, the Italian court architect of the Elector of Mainz (portal). 1707 – 1726 Further expansion under the direction of the Mainz fortress builder Maximilian von Welsch (2nd construction period)
