The location of the mill is not correct but unfortunately there is also some confusion, especially in the photos. After all, there are photos of two different mills on the Voer in Laag-Caestert. They are quite close to each other but are completely different.

The Zaagwatermolen was a watermill in the hamlet of Laag-Caestert near Eijsden in the municipality of Eijsden-Margraten that, together with several neighboring watermills, made use of the water of the river Voer.

The mill dates from the 18th century and a facade stone mentions the year 1729. The mill initially sawed wood with water power and got its name from that.
The mill was originally owned by Counts De Geloes. In 1834, Count Constantin de Geloes is still mentioned as the owner. Four years later he sold the mill and accessories to the Liège banker Gerard Nagelmaekers. By that time the mill had already been converted into a grain mill.
In 1858, Nagelmaekers sold the mill again to the tanners Gebr. Louis and Charles Coopman. Louis Coopman had a tannery in Maastricht. Charles Coopman's tannery was located in Eijsden on Diepstraat. Undoubtedly oak bark or tann was ground here at the time.
After a building violation, the mill was demolished in 1898 and rebuilt a year later - also without a permit.

So the mill could just as easily have been called "Looimolen"... and the year in the gable stone should actually have been "1899".
