The old Düneberg water tower is right on the side of the road and immediately catches the eye.
At the end of the First World War, the Düneberg powder factory employed around 16,000 people. In order to be able to accommodate some of their employees in the village, they built a housing estate and a home for singles below the Heidberge.
To supply the colony with drinking water, she ran wells in the factory on
old engine house.
The water tower built next to the home for singles in 1917, with two rectangular tanks in the head, provided the necessary pressure in the pipe network. The home for singles served as an orphanage from 1920, later for disabled children, before the Reichspost ran a postal security school here from 1936.
At that time, several new buildings were built, which characterize the ensemble to this day.
In 1946 Friedrich-Karl Marcus founded his chemical factory Dr. Marcus GmbH,
a manufacturer of food colors (since 2002 Sensient Food Colors).
