Eidfjord, a small and picturesque village situated on the fjord of the same name. The Eidfjord forms a branch of the Hardangerfjord, Norway's second largest fjord. Because of its fertile and beautiful orchards, this area is known as the “Orchard of Norway”. But this part of Norway is also known for its rich history and cultural traditions. Many popular Norwegian cultural treasures such as the Hardangerbunad national costume and the Hardingfela fiddle come from this area. Recently, the Eidfjord has also become known for the production of green electricity in the form of hydroelectric power. At the same time, the wild and untouched nature is never far away. The village of Eidfjord is not far from the majestic Hardangervidda, Europe's largest high mountain plateau. Here you are in the middle of extensive, rough nature. Hardangervidda is home to a national park and herds of wild reindeer. There you can also admire natural wonders such as Norway's most famous waterfall, Vøringsfossen. With a drop of 182 meters, it is one of the highest waterfalls in Europe. Another attraction in Eidfjord is the Hardangervidda Nature Center. At this visitor center you can learn all about the national park and its fascinating history.
