In the distance you can see the 80 meter high Paterberg. Are you interested in cycling? Then you might have heard of it, it is one of the now famous climbs of the iconic "Ronde van Vlaanderen". Even if cycling leaves you cold: doesn't it look pretty?

Fun fact on the side: It was unpaved for a long time, until 1986, when a farmer, an enthusiastic cyclist, had the path over the mountain paved so that the roundabout can also pass him. It worked!

The Paterberg in Kluisbergen was first climbed in 1986 by the Tour of Flanders. The road is paved with cobblestones and you climb from 32 to 80 meters over a length of only 350 meters. That makes an average of 12.5% with a maximum gradient of 20%. The Paterberg is therefore one of the toughest climbs in the Flemish Ardennes and the Tour of Flanders, where it is climbed several times. The heaviest part is right in front of the top. The gutter can help, just like the bench on top. A beautiful panorama awaits you there over the flat west side of the Flemish Ardennes and the Scheldt valley.
