    Kilchberg is a municipality in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland. It is located on the west bank of Lake Zurich.
    Like the name "Kilchberg", the church on the mountain was first mentioned in 1248.
    During the Old Zurich War, the wooden church was burned down by the Confederates and later replaced by a massive stone building, which has since been renovated several times. Kilchberg has also had a Roman Catholic church since 1935.
    In 1975 the Sanitas Spital, then managed by Dominican women, moved from the Enge to a spacious new building in the countryside in Kilchberg.
    In 2011, the Sanitas Spital merged with the Zimmerberg Spital from Horgen to form the See-Spital with two locations.
    Kilchberg was originally a farming village. In addition to the farmers, whose most important acquisition was viticulture up to the 17th century, the boatmen from Bendlikon, who handled the movement of people and goods with the city of Zurich, should also be mentioned.
    In the 17th and 18th centuries, the cotton spinners and mousseline weavers began to work from home to a certain extent.
    In the 18th century, the Kilchberg-Schooren porcelain factory and later the faience factory had a special significance for Kilchberg.
    Faience and earthenware dishes were manufactured until 1869.
    The headquarters of the well-known chocolate manufacturer Lindt & Sprüngli is located in Kilchberg.
    It is the oldest and only major industrial company in the municipality.
    Thomas Mann and his wife Katia, as well as their daughters Erika, Monika and Elisabeth and their son Michael are buried in the grave of the "most extraordinary family in German literature" in the cemetery in Kilchberg.
