The Villa Jacobs is located on the high bank of the Jungfernsee near the historic park of the New Garden with the Cecilienhof Palace and the Marble Palace. Friedrich Ludwig Persius built the villa in the Tuscan country house style in 1835 as a tower villa by the sugar boiling manufacturer L. F. Otto Jacobs.

The villa was the first of its kind and was the model for all tower villas in Potsdam. It thus belonged to a series of romantic buildings on the banks of the Havel and, via its tower, as a structural accent that was visible from afar, took up a series of visual relationships with the Potsdam park landscape. The gardens of the villa were designed by Peter Joseph Lenné in collaboration with Persius. It forms the historical core of an originally 10 hectare park and is the only one that Lenné designed for a private client. With the establishment of the park, extensive fruit plantations and a vineyard were laid out on the Villa Jacobs property.

The Villa Jacobs on Jungfernsee was built in 1835 according to the plans of Ludwig Persius for the sugar manufacturer Ludwig Jacobs. The villa includes an 8-hectare landscape park designed by Peter Josef Lenné. As the first tower villa after the Roman baths, the building became a model for a large number of villas in Potsdam. When the park was built, extensive fruit plantations and a vineyard were created here. After the death of the Jacobs couple, the villa and park were sold to Kaiser Wilhelm II. Villa Jacobs remained the property of the Hohenzollerns until 1948.
During the Second World War, parts of the park served as a base for the Wehrmacht. After the war, the area became a Russian military area.
In 1981 the villa was demolished and an allotment garden was created on the park grounds. After the fall of the Wall, the city of Potsdam advertised the site for restoration. Today the park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
