The committed man has been looking after the Königs Wusterhausen orchard for two years. The old apple and pear varieties are there with the stately ones. Next to them are cherry, plum and walnut trees. There are around 50 fruit trees on the approximately two-hectare site.

"I like this little piece of land here," says Wolfgang Pschera. The Königs Wusterhausen native prune the fruit trees and has planted a Benjes hedge, which is now home to sand lizards and grass snakes. The trunks for the hedge were supplied by the state forestry company, which owns the area. Together with his grandson, the pensioner built tit boxes and hung them in the cherry trees. Together with the forestry administration, he planted a flower strip for the first time last year.

The energetic man is on site at least once a week and looks after the trees and meadow. But far too often he also has to collect rubbish from walkers. "More people should get involved in nature," he thinks. Wolfgang Pschera also reports many positive experiences; people who speak to him in the orchard and thank him for his work. He is happy about the Zeesen daycare and after-school children who regularly come to the orchard and are enthusiastic about the barefoot path or tree telephone.
