Ensingen unterm Eselsberg on the edge of the Stromberg is a district of the large district town of Vaihingen an der Enz in the district of Ludwigsburg and has around 2537 inhabitants. In the 13th century Ensingen belonged to the Lords of Eselsberg, after they died out around 1253 it passed to the Counts of Vaihingen and from them at the end of the 14th century to the House of Württemberg. In 1972 Ensingen was incorporated into Vaihingen.
Special buildings: The Eselsburg tower on the 392 meter high Eselsberg north of Ensingen was built in 1925 by the Ensingen local group of the Swabian Alb Association on the stables of Eselsberg Castle. The wooden tower is 18.2 meters high. From its viewing platform you have a wonderful panoramic view from the Schlossberg near Karlsruhe-Durlach in the west, over the northern Black Forest (Dobel, Hohloh, Hornisgrinde) to the Swabian Alb - in front of it the Solitude and the Stuttgart TV tower - to the Swabian Forest and the Löwenstein mountains. In the north, the neighboring mountain range of the Baiselsberg and Wachtkopf limits the horizon.
