In the quarry in front of the Rudelsburg, on the site of the former bailey, the Lion Monument was built in 1926. It honors the 2,360 Kösener corps students who died in the First World War. In relief it shows an oversized lions struck by lances, but ready to fight, turned to the west. The Lion Monument was created by the Berlin sculptor Hermann Hosaeus, supported by the Berlin architect Erich Blunck. Philipp Holzmann AG took over the construction work. At the inauguration on October 26, 1926, all 116 Corps were represented. Present were Max Le Blanc (University of Leipzig) and Paul Menzer (University of Halle) as well as the mayors of Bad Kösen and Naumburg.
