These were once the most important tools in mining.
It's no wonder, then, that they were used as miners' coats of arms as early as the 16th century.

The mine at shaft 4 has received a light installation by the Berlin artist Gunda Förster.
The light installation "Konturen" has been on display since December 10, 2021, from dusk until sunrise.

It's really great what has become of the former Schlägel & Eisen colliery in Herten-Langenbochum. Not only has new industry settled in a very short time, it also has a high quality of stay. The "Allee des Wandels" cycle route also contributes to this, as it connects the Hoheward dump in the south of Herten and Westerholt on a former coal mine railway route and runs right through the center of the mine.

Lately the headframe shaft IV shines in a very special light with the onset of dusk, thanks to the total of more than 600 meters long LED light strips.
Incidentally, the shaft III headframe in the immediate vicinity is the oldest surviving German strut frame of this type in North Rhine-Westphalia. (Built in 1896)
