The Windesheimer mill has graced the road between Zwolle and Wijhe since 1748. It was preceded by a long history before the mill became what it is today. The friars of the monastery in Windesheim, inaugurated in 1387, were given permission to build a mill in 1391. Workers built a so-called 'post mill'. That was a mill that looked very different from the current mill in appearance.
A fierce storm razed the post mill to the ground in 1747. Due to the strong wind, the mill was 'consumed to ashes' by fire. A year later, the current flour mill with a low rack was built.
The mill has been used for milling for years. But from 1942 it went downhill with the mill. In 1952 one could see right through the frame and the floor was now full of holes.
Fortunately, the foundation 'De Windesheimer Molen' was established in 1952. This foundation bought the mill from the then owner Jan Langevoort and took care of a restoration. Later the Municipality of Zwolle bought the mill and in 1978 it ordered another necessary restoration.
Since 1993, the millers have used the mill again for consumption. Bakker Joling from Wijhe bakes bread and cakes with it, and flour is also sold in the mill shop.
In 2009 the mill was restored again and an extension was built under the scaffolding.
