A historically and archaeologically very interesting overview of the many rich finds in the "Merovingian Burial Field in Engelmanshoven" in the January 1954 edition of the "Oude Land van Loon" by Knight Ph. de Schaetzen and M. Vanderhoeven. It shows you how extensive, important and simply 'rich' the finds made here are. Much can be admired in the Gallo-Roman museum in nearby Tongeren. Because here you are standing on a hill where a Merovingian burial ground from the 6th-7th century was located. In the 1950s, no fewer than sixty graves were uncovered here during research. Many pots, knives, glasses and other utensils from that period were found. Unfortunately, very few people show enough interest to read the information offered along the way, which is still part of our history. A picnic bench is of course important.
