Mills should not be missing on a hike along the water. Along the way you will come across not only this one, the so-called Boes mill, but also others: the Wielant mill and the St. Waltrudis mill.

They are usually named after their owner, although the "Boes" in this case refers to the forest area in which they stood. Until the French Revolution, it belonged to the Abbey of Saint Aubert of Kamerijk. Then it burned down in the 16th century. Today's Boesmolen dates from 1753 and was in operation until 1963.

Then it served as a discotheque, horse breeding and finally - until today - as a residential building.

Boesmolenstraat 2, 1540 Herne
The Boesmolen, already mentioned in 1219 as "bossemuel" and as such referring to a mill (mel) in a wooded area (bosse), was once in the possession of the Carthusian monastery. In 1228 the abbey of Sint-Aubertus van Cambrai bought the mill, but it burned down in 1580 during the religious wars. The recently restored mill house with an iron undershot wheel is located north of the Boesmolenstraat.
