The late Gothic three-aisled hall church of St. Marien in Pirna was built between 1502 and 1546. With a ridge height of 40 meters and a roof truss height of 25 meters, the roof has the largest church roof area in Saxony and was renewed in 2004. The church tower is 60 m high.

One of the city's most famous sons is the indulgence dealer Johannes Tetzel, whose birthplace can be visited as part of city tours.

The town houses in Pirna's old town, richly decorated with sandstone, show the most beautiful entrance portals, seating niches or bay window decorations. The contrasting devil and angel bay windows are particularly striking. High above the city, on a plateau, the Sonnenstein, sits the castle of the same name, which today houses the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district office. The fortifications of the former fortress, the bastions, are the setting for the Pirna Sculpture Summer in the summer months and become an open-air museum.
