Patrician house with street-side lattice, a small courtyard, two single-storey side wings and a two-storey main house at the back.
The buildings were constructed in 1806 in the style of the Aachen builder Couven.
The client was Johann Joseph Spiess from Colmar.
The French tax authorities appointed him in 1798 to collect the indirect taxes and administrate the national domains in the canton of Erkelenz.
The house was badly damaged in World War II.

At Franziskanerplatz, named after the convent that was abolished in 1802, behind the tower of the Lamberti Church, which dominates the cityscape of Erkelenz, is the private house of a Napoleonic bailiff. The well-proportioned, three-winged building is contemporary and classicistic with individual late baroque echoes.
