The city wall of Kamenz was first mentioned in a document in 1348. In addition to the Bautzen and Königsbrück city gates, it also owned the Pulsnitz gate, the remainder of which the Red Tower has been preserved to this day. In the course of the demolition of the Kamenzer city wall around 1835, the Pulsnitz Gate was also demolished and the Red Gate Tower is one of the few remnants of the former city fortifications.
