In beautiful surroundings, our crops are grown in this garden and presented with easy-to-read signs. Also interesting for botanists, as per species also several old and rare varieties can be seen. The visit in July is recommended because the cereals are then ripe. Admission free.

The market place, first mentioned in 1388, was named after Cadolzburg Castle, first mentioned in 1157. However, the present building stock of the castle complex dates from the period from the 13th to the 18th century. From 1260, Cadolzburg served as the seat of the Hohenzollern burgraves of Nuremberg. Elector Friedrich I of Brandenburg fundamentally rebuilt the castle. He died there in 1440. He donated the Cadolzburg altar from 1420/25 for the parish church dedicated to Saint Cecilia. At the foot of the crucifixion scene in the central panel, he is shown together with his wife Elisabeth von Bayern-Landshut as the donor couple. The side wings show St. Cecilia, the patron saint of the church, and her bridegroom, St. Valerian. The three-winged altar, now kept in the Grunewald hunting lodge in Berlin, was presented to the Prussian Crown Prince Friedrich III in 1873 at his request. given as a gift[35] and now replaced by a copy that is true to the original[36], which can be seen in the Protestant castle chapel.[37] The castle remained intact during the Thirty Years' War.

From 1933 to 1945, part of the castle, the so-called New Castle, was used by the Hitler Youth as a district leader school.[38] At the end of World War II in 1945, the castle caught fire and remained in ruins for decades.[39] Since 1979, the Bavarian Palace Administration has been entrusted with the reconstruction in cooperation with the Erlangen-Nuremberg State Building Authority.[40] The reconstruction of the main castle, which began in 1982, came to a temporary conclusion in 2007 with the repair and partial redesign of the outdoor facilities by the Wiegel landscape architecture office. In the years that followed, the areas in the old and new palaces, the inner courtyard and the outer bailey were available for numerous public events.[40]

To the south of the main castle – essentially a high medieval mantle wall castle – is a generously dimensioned outer bailey, primarily with buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as a walled-in pleasure garden area. The gate tower with the clock tower is a Gothic component (13th/14th century).

In 2013, the decision was made to completely expand the old castle and a building in the outer bailey into an adventure museum.[40] In June 2017 the new museum ReichsZeiten. Experience Cadolzburg opened.

The oldest reference to a manorial garden outside the Cadolzburg can be found in a directory about the manorial possessions (Salbuch) from 1464. The first evidence of a garden within the castle complex is provided by the drawing of the landgrave Moritz von Hessen from 1629. In this sketch the area between the horse pond and the neck ditch is called the "pleasure garden". The narrow meadows of the two kennels running around the main castle were planted with high-stemmed fruit trees in the 18th century. There were also two large meadows covered with fruit trees outside the castle complex.
