For the visibility of Heligoland a little calculation: The "White Dune" on Spiekeroog has a height of hS = 25m, the "Lange Anna" on Helgoland has a height of hH = 49m. The visibility Sw = 3.9 x (√ height of the observer above sea level + √ height of the object above sea level) = 3.9 x (√hS + √hH) = 3.9 x (√25 + √49) = 3, 9 x (5 + 7) = 46.8 km. Helgoland is about 25 nm * 1.852 km / nm = 46.3 km away from Spiekeroog, so - with "very clear visibility" (= 50 km) - it is just about right. ;-) It should be taken into account that the eye level of the observer is another 1.5 m above the dune height, which again favors the visibility Sw. I think it's great that nature has set it up so that the heights of the White Dune and the Long Anna are square numbers. ;-)) By the way, there are also reflections in the air layers and so on, which in rare cases actually make it possible to see Heligoland.
