Obelisk Fountain, Schönbrunn Palace
The obelisk fountain, located at the foot of the Schönbrunner Berg, forms the visual accent at the end of the eastern diagonal avenue. Alongside the Gloriette and the Menagerie, it is one of the most important focal points of the garden axes. Like the other garden objects, this fountain was designed by Johann Ferdinand Hetzendorf von Hohenberg and built in 1777. The sculptural work was carried out by Benedikt Henrici, partly based on designs by Wilhelm Beyer.
