        The Domholzschänke is a popular destination in the middle of the Leipzig floodplain forest. Up until the 19th century, a hut was used for forestry and hunting purposes on the site of today's inn. From 1912 to 1918 the Leipzig Boy Scouts owned the property.


        In 1928, a tourist restaurant called "Domholzschänke" was opened next to the hunting lodge. The name goes back to the cathedral foundation's ownership of this part of the floodplain forest, which was therefore called "Dömerey-Holz" and later "Domholz". The restaurant soon enjoyed growing popularity and became a well-established name for a day trip destination in the region when there were still few cars. The landlady of the Domholzschänke was able to successfully resist the attempts at nationalization by the GDR authorities. When long-distance travel became possible after the end of the GDR and the Domholzschänke lost its importance, it had to stop operating. Due to non-use, the property fell into disrepair in the 1990s. In 2002, the TV film "Marga Engel kocht vor Wut" was filmed here before the location burned down to the foundations in January 2003 due to arson.

        The Domholzschänke was rebuilt in 2006 and is becoming more popular because of the increasing importance of local recreation.
