The Lousios River flows through a stunning gorge, stretching from Karytaina to Dimitsana. With rapid waters and a narrow, forested gorge, it's great for hiking.
The river holds mythological importance, believed to be where Zeus washed after his birth, and was considered the coldest river in the world by Pausanias. This gorge is often called the "Mount Athos of the Peloponnese" due to the many monasteries along its walls, like Timiou Prodromou, Philosophou, Aimyalon and Panagias Kalamiou. It also boasts ancient water-mills for tobacco and gunpowder production, and at its southern end, you'll find the ancient city of Gortys.

The bridge is halfway between the Prodromou and Philosopher's monasteries. You can hear the roar of the steep and wild river throughout the gorge, and when you stand on the bridge you know how loud it is when it's warm.
