    This beautiful Catholic church of St. Nicholas is a single-nave hall building with a recessed choir and a saddle tower attached to the north. Due to its proximity to Lake Constance, its bell tower is a landmark of the city.

    In 1293 and in a document dated May 26, 1325, a chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas of Myra was mentioned in the then town of Buchhorn in the territory of the Hofen monastery. The citizens of Buchhorn expanded the chapel in 1437 to become a Gothic church and built the tower that can still be seen today. After the Hofen monastery was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War, the citizens made St. Nicholas' Church their parish church.

    In 1689 it was expanded and changed. In keeping with the taste of the time, the Gothic vaults had to make way for a flat ceiling. In the 18th century, the tower of the church took on its current shape. On August 16, 1770, the church was re-consecrated by Nepomuk von Hornstein. In the 19th century, the church was redesigned in the neo-Renaissance style.

    The church was modernized from 1940 onwards. During this phase, it fell victim to a bombing raid in the Second World War on April 28, 1944, along with almost the entire old town. Only the tabernacle erected in 1942 by Fritz Möhler with the inscription "Behold, I make all things new" and the intact corpus of Christ could be salvaged from the smoking rubble. In August 1946, reconstruction of the church began, with the salvaged furnishings being reused. On October 11, 1949, it was re-consecrated. In 1955, a larger sacristy was added on the north side, which today also forms the room of silence. In 1960, the chancel was redesigned, and the baroque choir arch was removed. In 1974, the church was changed due to the conciliar renewal. After an external renovation in 1986, it was modified again in 1987 and the chancel was redesigned in 2013.
