It is believed that the Cistercian monks began building the massive stone church in the middle of the village before 1234.
Two of the three bells from the 16th century still hang in the belfry. The larger one has a diameter of 1.13 m and is marked with the inscription "O Rex glorie Christe, veni cum pace, ave Maria Gracia" ("O , King Christ, come in peace, hail Mary "). This inscription is set off with three lilies of Mary, the symbol of the Cistercians for innocence, purity and the beauty of the Mother of God. The second bell has a diameter of 0.74 m. The third bell from 1609 was damaged and re-cast after the First World War.
