This perfectly paved path runs below Johannisberg Castle. From here you not only have a beautiful view of the majestic castle, but also, as in so many places in the Rheingau, of the sparkling Rhine and the Rheinhessen hill country. On nice days you almost feel like you are in Tuscany.

I can see the castle every day from our terrace and living room. Nevertheless, it is still a very beautiful castle, and next to it there is a stand from the Schloss Johannisberg winery that invites you to linger and where you can enjoy delicious Rheingauer Riesling. By the way, you can afford a castle like that if you just sell enough pudding powder 😏, the entire system belongs to Dr. Oetker Group
A visit to the wine cabinet and the wonderful view over the Rheingau make a visit to the castle a must when visiting the Rheingau.

This castle is worth seeing, no question. However, there is another castle in the Rheingau (whose winery has also made wine history), which, in my opinion, is architecturally more beautiful: Vollrads Castle. This castle doesn't look strictly Napoleonic, but rather playful and romantic, with its pond, turrets, and beautiful grounds.

From here, too, excellent panoramic trails lead through the adjacent vineyards. The so-called "Flute Trail" even connects the two castles.

Cycle path through the vineyards R3a! Today there was still flooding on the Rhine and so we got to know cycle path 3a, which leads through the vineyards above here. Very pleasant route, bearable gradients. From Rüdesheim we could then try out the new cycle path on the right bank of the Rhine, which has been chosen as a UNESCO World Heritage Site Middle Rhine 2023. At first I found it impressive because you basically ride over the water and have a great view of the entire surrounding area. But: I'm sitting in the front on a Pino (recumbent position) and these expansion joints from the far too much concrete shook my spine. That's why we crossed over to Niederrimbach. We didn't regret it.
