As a result of the renovation work, the lighthouse shrank from 68 to 65 m in height.
Swinoujscie was an important base of the German Navy during the Second World War (1939-1945). In order to support the advance of the Red Army from the east, the 8th US Air Force attacked the city on March 12, 1945. In this air raid, bombs barely missed the lighthouse, but severely damaged its outer shell.
