The actual architects of Harpa are Henning Larsen Architects‎ and Batteríið‎. The artist Ólafur Elíasson designed the concept for the design of the outer facade. Furthermore, visiting the Harpa is no longer free. 1500 ISK (as of 2017) has to be paid to visit areas other than the ground floor. It is also possible to book a guided tour of the Harpa.

Harpa's glass building is a beautiful design, where the design principles are light, color and natural phenomena. Harpa is an old Icelandic word and is a month on the old Nordic calendar. Harpa is located in the north of Reykjavik near the city's old harbour. You can get there within a 10-minute walk from the center and the highlight will immediately stand out because of the shiny colored glasses; the surrounding water gives an even more sparkling effect. A quick look inside the building is worth a visit to this attraction.

The concert and conference center, completed in 2011, is located directly on the harbor in Reykjavik. The architect of this impressive building is Olafur Eliasson. The hexagonal glass blocks, which shimmer in different colors in the changing light, symbolize the basalt columns that can be found everywhere in volcanically active Iceland.
On the ground floor there is a café and a shop with high-quality souvenirs. A large part of the interior of the building can be visited free of charge, and the view through the colorful windows of the harbor and Reykjavik's local mountain Esja is very beautiful.

Harpa - Tónlistar- og ráðstefnuhúsið í Reykjavík (Harpa - the concert and conference house in Reykjavík) is the Icelandic name for the 2011 opera and concert hall in the capital Reykjavík. The building houses both the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra and the Icelandic Opera and, with the facade designed by the artist Ólafur Elíasson, is an architectural attraction and a new symbol of the capital.

The shining eye-catcher in the harbor is the Harpa concert and congress hall, whose glass facade reflects the light of the sky and the water of the sea. When darkness surrounds the hall in winter, the electric lamps in the facade create a dramatic effect.

Shortly before the hall was completed, everyone was able to put forward suggestions for the name of the building and the name Harpa was finally chosen, which means harp on the one hand and is also the name of the first month of summer on the other. When Icelanders hear the name Harpa, they feel positive and hopeful in the name, because the first month of summer promises the final farewell to a long, hard winter, it brings better times with it and has therefore always been eagerly awaited. After all, they have managed to get through the winter, so things can only get better from now on.

Himinglæva is the name of a new stainless-steel sculpture by Elín Hansdóttir that sits outside Harpa Concert Hall. It’s a work of art that is not only meant to be seen, but also heard. An “Aeolian harp,” the sculpture is designed to produce sonic overtones as the wind travels through it. Its name comes from Norse mythology, and means “transparent, shining, and small wave.”

In Norse mythology, sailors who sensed the power of the wind and waves around them assumed that the mythical figure Himinglæva was embodying the water and propelling their vessels across the ocean. Alluding metaphorically to this legend, the harp is designed to attune the viewer to the natural forces around them. The shape is based on a Lissajous figure, representing the shape of light beams reflected through vibrating tuning forks. The sounds it produces change based on the force of the wind travelling through it.

A concert hall which is architecturally very successful. Admission to the main hall is free. A more detailed inspection only for a guided tour and fee. The glass of the facade always shimmers differently.

Right on the harbor of the Icelandic capital, where the ocean kisses the coast and the mountains dominate the skyline, the architectural masterpiece by Henning Larsen Architects‎ and Batteríið‎ towers. But the true magic of Harpa is revealed in its façade. This spectacle of hexagonal glass bricks, designed by Ólafur Elíasson, captures the light of day and lets it shimmer in a thousand colors, inspired by the basalt columns that characterize Iceland's wild nature.

When you enter the ground floor, you will immediately be greeted by the warm atmosphere of the café and you may be drawn to the souvenir shop, which tempts you with its hand-picked treasures. A special tip: take a moment to look through the colorful windows. The harbor of Reykjavík and the majestic local mountain Esja will offer you a breathtaking panorama.

In the evening, when darkness envelops the city, Harpa is transformed into a luminous work of art. Electric lamps illuminate the façade and create dramatic shadows that are reflected in the water of the harbor.

The history of this house is deeply rooted in Icelandic culture. The name "Harpa" carries an echo of hope and new beginnings: it not only refers to the musical instrument, the harp, but also to the first month of summer. A month that promises Icelanders the end of the long, hard winter and with it the promise of warmer, brighter days.

In addition to the impressive architecture and significance, the sculpture "Himinglæva" can be found in front of Harpa. This Aeolian harp, a work by Elín Hansdóttir, is not only an eye-catcher, but also a feast for the ears. Depending on the strength of the wind that passes through it, it produces tonal overtones and is reminiscent of the sailors from Norse mythology who believed that the figure Himinglæva controlled the seas.

The concert hall at Reykjavik's harbor, also known as "Harpa," is an impressive architectural landmark of the city. Designed by Danish architects Henning Larsen and Icelandic artist Ólafur Elíasson, the building opened in 2011. Its unique façade, consisting of a complex glass and aluminum structure reminiscent of the Northern Lights, creates a mesmerizing play of light and gives the building a modern, almost magical appearance.
