The Way of the Cross was destroyed in the war, the roads crumbled and grew overgrown. The Way of the Cross lived only in the memory of the citizens of Reifferscheid and the sisters of the Liebfrauenhof. In many discussions it was repeatedly stated that it was desirable to restore the old system.
In 1988 the way was completed by a job creation measure, the following year the 14 wooden crosses, the high cross and the connecting bridge over the Reifferscheider Bach.
