The old town hall with the Gothic tower was built in 1535 and is one of Deggendorf's landmarks. Noteworthy are the stone slabs with Bavarian coats of arms and the city coat of arms from the time it was built, as well as the sills of the windows with the fascinating mythical animals and grimacing heads. Also steeped in history are the two stone balls connected by chains that hang on the south facade and represent either a late medieval punitive instrument - the so-called disgraceful balls - or, as connected cannon balls, a devastating weapon of war. The historic tower house can be viewed as part of a city tour.
