The baroque castle church is closely connected to the nearby castle. Prötzel was first mentioned in 1375 and at that time already had its own stone church. This was badly damaged in the Thirty Years' War in 1638. On top of that, the town and church burned down during a fire clearing that got out of control. When Prötzel was acquired by Adam Georg von Schlieben in 1688, it was described as desolate. He had the church rebuilt as a flat-roofed hall in 1697/98. In 1700 the owner changed again, this time to Paul Anton von Kamecke. The castle was built under him and the church was redesigned as a baroque castle church. This included a family crypt on the west side, which was later used by the von Eckardstein family. The castle church was connected to the castle in terms of landscape and architecture with a terrace. Today, however, the original layout of the palace park with terraced garden can only be recognized in part. In addition to its function as a church, it is used for exhibitions and the "Open Studios".
