The Church of Santo Tomás de Canterbury or New Church of Sabugo, is popularly known as the Cathedral of Avilés. It should not be confused with the Church of Saint Thomas of Canterbury in the old district of Sabugo, very close to it. Using part of the stone from a previous building in 1903, the current new church in Sabugo, dedicated to Saint Thomas of Canterbury, was built, as was the small old church in the fishing district of Sabugo.
