One of the last inland dunes in Europe that was still actively migrating until a few years ago. It is located in a former military training area, much of which is now a nature reserve. The nature there has a steppe and desert character and therefore appears quite surreal. The dune is easily accessible via the Wurzelberg hiking trail, which leads to the dune. Along the way, there's a beautiful viewing platform for a picnic, from which you can take in the surroundings. Definitely worth a trip.

So that they have an undisturbed retreat in the wilderness area, we only observe them from the hiking trails. Moving on the dunes, be it on foot, by bike or any other means of transport is therefore not permitted.
